The Department of Zoology at Indira Gandhi University (IGU), Meerpur (Rewari), established in 2016, is a key constituent of the Faculty of Life Sciences and offers a well-structured two-year M.Sc. Zoology program with an intake of 40 students. Designed for students passionate about the natural world and animal sciences, the program provides in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge across diverse areas such as animal diversity (Non-Chordata and Chordata), taxonomy, animal behavior, developmental biology, evolution, ecology, conservation, entomology, fishery science, genetics, and emerging fields like nanoscience and technology. The curriculum integrates interactive teaching methods, smart classrooms, advanced laboratory work, seminars, habitat studies, institute visits, and report writing to foster communication, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry. A dissertation further enhances students' research aptitude and problem-solving skills, preparing them to address real-world challenges in health, environment, and society. From 2024, the department has aligned its teaching approach with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, promoting interdisciplinary learning, skill development, and research-driven education. Supported by a dedicated team of experienced faculty members—including a Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professors—the department offers a vibrant academic environment, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and mentoring that collectively prepare students for careers in academia, research, wildlife conservation, environmental management, and life science industries.
